Minor color variation within tolerance, small surface scratches from handling during transit, and slight gloss variation between the proof and the bulk run are normal characteristics of metallic packaging production and do not require a revised proof. Document the accepted tolerances in the approval record so that the bulk inspection uses the same criteria.
The packaging approval sign-off should be documented in writing, referencing the proof version number, the date of review, the lighting condition used, and any accepted deviations from the original specification. The signed approval document is the production authorization for the bulk packaging run. Changes to the approved specification after sign-off require a new proof and a new approval record.
